Champion Pedigree :
Stew Jones Restorations

In the small and specialized world of Jaguar restoration and parts suppliers, a few shops and specialists focus their skills and knowledge on a series of model but one place is very unique because of how narrow their primary field of expertise is.

Stew Jones Restorations in Winstead Ct is the Series 3 E-type expert. They (almost) only work on V12 E-types and as a result they know all those little details which will make a difference between a 99.95 car and a 100 point winner. Each marking, no matter how insignificant it may seem to most of us, each bolt, screw, clamp etc… is just as it was when E-types were rolling out of the factory in Coventry some thirty years ago.

One such car is a 1974 OTS owned by Terry Love of the Illinois Jaguar Club who scored a perfect 100 points at the 2001 Challenge Championship in Franklin Tn. and won the Best Of Show Challenge Championship Trophy. There is no doubt judging was tough at Franklin as most entrants scored lower than in their regional events.; the only other perfect 100 point score went to a new S-type .

This result is no fluke but truly the fruits of Stew Jones expertise when it comes to Series 3 E-types. His restorations have won class C7 in 1994, 1995, 1999, took second in 2000 and a quick look at the JCNA provisional 2002 standings shows another one of his restoration tied for first with a 100 point average ( Mitch Mitchell’s sable 1974 OTS of Illinois).

I got a chance to visit Stew Jones Restorations last May when I drove to Connecticut for the Empire Jaguar Club track school at Limerock and was very impressed with their operation. Their two main buildings ( one sitting on the edge of a lake with windows opening on the water ) are spacious and filled with parts since they are also an excellent source of used and new parts for V12 E-types. A state of the art paint room also allows them to control all aspect of a restoration.

But Stew Jones work isn’t only about Concours and Shows as his experience extends to the track and slalom / autocross courses as well thru performance modifications and upgrades like the 6 Webber V12 brute shown on this page . They have also put together purpose built racing E-types with V12s enlarged to as high as 7 liters…

And in case you’re wondering what their website address is, it’s just www.jaguarv12etype.com ! and yes they do sell parts for the more "common" V12 E-types...
