2000 Suncoast Jaguar Club Concours
Sarasota, FL
by Diane Hartwell
The Suncoast Jaguar Club held their concours on September 29th and 30th. Rick and I planned on making a weekend of it, leaving here early Friday afternoon and then returning on Sunday. We had planned on trailering the MKIX. Rick had already made the reservations at the hotel with our room over looking the ocean. Mike Rosenberg had already left and we were to meet him there. Russell had left sometime in the afternoon also.
The first problem came up when I thought that I didn't have a baby sitter for our puppy, Dejay. And not feeling comfortable with the arrangements that had been made, I decided to stay home and Rick left by himself around 1:30. Around 4:30 Rick came driving the MKIX back in the driveway. What could be the problem? He didn't want to go without me so he decided not to go. No, he was driving on 75 and a rear tire came off the trailer so he had to turn around and come home. Luckily nothing happened to Rick, the car or the truck. So after calling Mike and Russ who were already there, we decided to go the next morning. We would leave real early and get there in plenty of time for the show. Rick knew Pascal was driving the next morning along with Rick Hill and the Gommels so he gave him a call to see if we could drive along with them. Pascal was leaving too late so we decided just to go by ourselves.
Well, Saturday morning rolled around and the baby sitting problem was resolved, now all we had to do was pack the car and leave. Well, don't you know as soon as we were ready to go the sky opened up with these major down pours for almost two hours. We didn't know what to do. Since Rick had already made the reservations, we would get charged for the room anyway. So we decided to take the truck. After all that, we got over there at around 10:30 to a beautiful sunny day.
The club had moved the location of their concours St. Armands Circle. Which is a green surrounded by shops and restaurants in all directions. Those of you that like to shop really missed out. We met up with Mike and he said that the cocktail party the night before sponsored by their dealership was fabulous. They have a great working relationship with the dealership, Sarasota Jaguar. Rick and I were disappointed that we had missed this. But were glad to be there at the show.
Russ was there with his XKE as was Frank Rubino with his XKE and XK120. Just at the cut off time, Pascal, Rick Hill and John and Cindy Gommel pulled in with their cars. The club had a great turn out with 39 cars all told and a good turn out from our club.
The banquet was held that night at a really nice restaurant. The awards were handed out and congratulations to Rick Hill for taking second with his XKE in driven as well as the Gommels with their XJS in driven. Russ took second with his XKE in competition and Frank Rubino took second with his XK120 and first with his XKE in competition.
Congratulations to all.
