Let's
go to the Keys !
June 9th - 11th

How about a week end relaxing in the Keys, with a bunch of Jaguar of course... That's what was on the agenda for the week end of june 9th. Oh... and a few Stingrays as well since this is a joint event with the Corvette Stingray Club.
Unfortunately, bad weather prompted a few to cancel their trip but it turned out to be a typical Florida summer day, passing rain showers that didn't last...

I couldn't make it there friday evening and since I wanted to go to the autocross on sunday, I decided to make this into a daytrip and was joined by Rick Hill and his 69 E-type E-type. We met along the turnpike in Miami along with Ken Nuelle, president of the Suncoast Triumph Club who caravaned with us in his 62 TR3
Traffic was light on the turnpike and Overseas Highway on a saturday morning and we quickly reached Islamorada where a few members were staying. After a good breakfast in one of the many small diners on the side of US1, we decided to head down to Key West anyway.
Anyway, not only because of the weather, but mostly because of fear of traffic and parking problems as this week end was also part of a big gay festival and parade. Most members decided to stay in Islamorada and only Rick Hill, Ben Mahr and I got on the road heading south. Ben, in his series 1 XJ6 had told us he'd just drive along for while, not willing to get stuck in traffic...
Indeed after 30 miles, Ben turns around and heads back up to Islamorada as both E-types keep heading south. Traffic remains ok and we soon reach Key West.
Key West is obviously a town which lives at night and where people get up late... Streets are pretty empty and parking is no problem.
After lunch as we get back to the cars, we ran into a British man who turns out to be a Jaguar enthusiast and a writer for various publications including Jaguar World. On assignement for a travel magazine, he asks to take a few pictures of the cars so we head out to a couple of spots, including the famous 90 miles to Cuba marker.
After the pictures we head back home, with a quick stop along the way in Islamorada where others had spend the day.
