For the 6th year, the Ritz Carlston resort at Amelia Island ( just north of Jacksonville ) was the site of what many call the Pebble Beach of the east coast with hundreds of the best classic cars lined up on this resort golf course. Created by vintage racer and photographer Bill Warner, the Concours invitational format guarantees cars of the highest quality and usually rare. But sometimes, these can also be cars that we know as club members Russel Glace, Frank Rubino and Jeff Fisher had their national winners on the lawn last year.

A few members of our club drove up the coast for the week end and a great opportunity to view some breathtaking sights in the form of not only Jaguars but Ferraris, Packards, Dusenbergs, muscle cars, race cars, etc…

The featured Marque for this 2001 Concours d'Elegance was Pierce-Arrow, the prestigious American manufacturer which, from 1901 to 1938, produced luxury cars including the US president official cars for 20 years.

There was a British flair to this year's Concours as the honorary Chairman was British driver John Surtees, the only person to win both Motorcycle ( 7 titles in the 50s) and Formula One ( 1964) World championship titles; a selection of cars and motorcycles he raced in his carreer was on display.

The event has grown so much, it also includes auctions, tours and othe social functions over fours days,  that it is now managed by a non profit foundation with a core staff.

For details on the Amelia Island concours, please visit the official site where you will find press releases, class informations, results, and more.

For the second year, the Amelia Island Concours was the starting point of a Vintage Rally, the Forza Amelia, open to any pre 1974 or V12 sports car. For 5 days, some 32 cars competed in a time / speed / distance rally while staying in great hotels with full assistance. For details on the Forza Amelia, please go to the Vintage Rally web site or visit our own daily Rally journal. The cars entered in the Forza Amelia have the priviledge of being on the field as well, in a separate class but nevertheless judged with awards given to the top three in the Rally class (see picture right, Russel Glace driving his XK 140 MC to receive his award).

While it is impossible to capture the beauty and the quality of the cars on display at Amelia Island, we tried to bring to you the pictures of about 100 cars. These pictures have been split in 8 sections accessible from the links below. Each section will open a separate window where you can navigate from picture to picture using the Next / Previous  buttons. A description of each car (year, model) will appear below the picture.

Note: due to formating limitations in Netscape, the description are not formatted as well as in Internet Explorer. Each picture is compressed to about 40 to 50k and should load quickly. Be patient on a modem connection as the description will appear before the picture.
