Planning the annual concours is no easy task with plenty of details to work out but when the location is hit by two major hurricanes within weeks of the big day, it makes things a little more complicated... This is exactly what concours chair Bob Scibelli had to deal with, including ... oh sorry... this must read very much like the article on last year's concours but guess what? same story this year except that it was THREE hurricanes including Wilma which caused significantly more damage than all the previous visitors combined; but don't worry, we'll spare you the hurricane jokes... Damage around South Florida was so bad that there was no choice but postponing the Concours by almost a month to give everyone time to get things back to normal... or at least almost normal. This meant a little bending of JCNA sanctioning rules since our Concours would end up taking place on december 3rd, three days after the close of the Concours season. And of hurricane season... After three years in West Palm Beach, we decided to return to Delray Beach and Old School Square, a picture perfect location in the heart of the city's dining and shopping district. Turn out was a lighter than usual because of the late date but a little over 30 cars graced the field. Once again, Jame Del Valle brought a couple of very special cars with an XK150S and a 1954 XK120 FHC delivered by Jaguar with a number or race prepared mods and driven by Sterling Moss. Fully restored with a magnificient red paint job! Other notables on the field included some long distance entries. Texan Terry Leeder brought another hot red cat, a 1973 E-type roadster also heavily modifed with 6 webbers carbs, alloy wheels, headers, suspension and Willwood brakes, and more... Being from Austin Texas, it was no surprise to find out that most upgrades came from E-type specialist Classic Jaguar... Also on the field from out of state were New York member George Parker with his 1965 silver E-type, DRIVEN not trailered and JANE (New England) member Frank Malowany with his 1974 red E-type roadster. Judging got underway on time under the supervision of SFJC Chief Judge Russel Glace and concluded by 2 PM. Once results were tabulated, awards were presented on the fields, rolling style, with each recipient driving his car to receive a very original glass trophy. It may be just a local Concours, but we can still present award in style, like the big shows! Seriously, rolling award presentation is a crowd pleaser with concours entrants and spectators enjoying the sight of the Jaguars driven around the field. And when they sound as good as a racing XK or a Webbered and headered V12 E-type.... it would be a shame not to do it! After the class awards, awards for Best Sports Car and Best Saloon went to JCOF member John Falco (1964 E-type roadster) and Jamie del Valle (2004 XJR). Concours Chair Bob Scibelli was presented the Tony Andrade Award for the SFJC who did the most for the club in 2005. The postponment of the Concours into the month of december meant that we couldnt' find a restaurant toaccomodate our traditional post Concours dinner (most were booked for Christmas... sorry... "Holliday" parties) so everybody got to go home earlier than usual; which was welcomed by those who had driven a distance to come to the show and by the SFJC volunteered who maned (or is it... who womaned) the boutique table all day... is that two political incorrect statements in one paragraph? Now, about those lame hurricane jokes... did you hear that Florida's new state flag is going to be a blue tarp? or ... do you know you are a true Flordian when your freezer never has more than $20 worth of food in it at any given time! or... ok... enough! see you next year after visits by ... oh... Valerie or William?
