2004 Jazz Brunch At Riverwalk
by Thomas Lanahan

The South Florida Jaguar Club, in conjunction with the City of Ft. Lauderdale's Sun Trust Sunday Jazz Brunch, held a Classic, and Modern Jaguar Display along Ft. Lauderdale's Las Olas Riverfront on Sunday April 4, 2004. Our theme for this event was to enjoy and experience. What a day we had accomplishing both. SFJC Event Staff arrived on scene at 9:00am on a beautiful, and sunny Sunday. Show Headquarters gear was offloaded from the "JagVan". We worked hard to get the area secured and blocked off and to get Show Headquarters set up.

Our Club Members Classic and Modern Jaguars then began arriving, through the Western Entrance, with Bill Smail and Elaine coming in first in their beautiful white XJ 6. We parked Bill far and away from any potential traffic hazards. Next to arrive in beautiful silver X Type were the JCNA Champions Chris and Patsy Canning .. Jaguar owners d'elegance. We then heard that wonderful sound of a 4.2 arriving in the distance, then a bright red flash and in flew Raymond Dranoff in his 1969 E Type OTS.

Next was the arrival of Ed Cirella's TEAM of 3 Jaguars, an XK 120, a lovely E-Type and a beautiful black XK8, wow what an experience getting them in and parked.

TEAM Hartwell was next down the "Red Carpet" of arrivals with their classic 1963 Mk X and their magnificent 1988 Daimler.

We then heard a ROAR off in the distance with the squealing of tires and the arrival of our Parking Aficionado Monsieur Pascal in his silver bullet, E-Type FHC Copy Cat 2+2 !!!!! What an arrival. Inbound from the Western entrance at lightning speed!

Our attention was then drawn to our eastern Entrance where the dynamic duo of Seitz and Scibelli elegantly, and delicately arrived in their classic XK 120's. We were able to stage them in a beautiful area under some trees with a nice grassy knoll for them to enjoy the day.

Then the arrival a beautiful black XJ S convertible. Joe McNamara jumped right in and helped in many ways. In came Bob Matzner in his white 2000 S Type, we then set Bob up for a beautiful display.

Again coming in from the West we had two more E-Types. Joe Hutchinson and Howard Schwartz. Not only did Howard bring, and display, his little brown jag, he also brought, and displayed, his little brown DOG !

Peter Hansen in his brand new XKR and Neville Hyman in his silver XK 8 completed our display of Classic and Modern Jaguars.

The "JagVan" left the scene to make room for the arrival of the "Hope Diamond" . The other beautiful silver E Type on display.

Club Members had a great time walking along the Las Olas Riverfront enjoying Jazz and Brunch at various locations. We had a great picnic area near our marques and the camaraderie was wonderful.

There were hundreds of Ft. Lauderdale residents, and visitors who were able to enjoy our display. Many spectators asked many questions, and took many pictures. City of Ft. Lauderdale Parks and Recreation Staff came by and told us how great the display looked.

We had a couple of issues with some two-wheeled Gangsters but we got them out of the area and away from the display. (Not in Events Chairperson's Job Description, although the standing ovation was appreciated for the life threatening effort)

Our hats are off to TEAM Boutique Members, Ms. Wood, Gloria Seitz, MaryAnne Finnegan, and Elaine Levine. Their efforts with the Boutique display, and General Information Booth were outstanding and quite successful. They deserve a great deal of credit as they were outside all day, answering questions, selling merchandise, and projecting that Classic Jaguar Spirit of cooperation and friendship to all of the many spectators who visited our Booth.

Our thanks to Bob Matzner and his lovely wife who guarded our supplies, and helped reload the "JagVan" after the event.

All in all a very nice day. We enjoyed a day full of Classic and Modern Jazz, and we helped many people experience Classic and Modern Jaguars.

My sincere thanks to all of those who attended, helped, and supported this event. Our thanks also to the City of Ft. Lauderdale Parks and Recreation Staff who again this year provided so much support and assistance. We have been invited back to display during their November 7th Sunday Jazz Brunch, maybe a Concours location?
