The Road to Franklin: Launch
of the SS car, 1931 |
|
Take close 200 to Jaguars and their owners, bring them to scenic Franklin Tennessee, keep them busy for 5 days with drives, a rally, a slalom, a concours and top it off with guest speakers and nice weather. Simple isnt it ?
It probably didnt feel that simple for the committee in charge of organizing the 2001 JCNA Challenge Championship held July 24th - 28th but the recipe worked and all attendees had a great time.
Of course the fact that some 20 rare C-types and D-types were there for us to enjoy made the event even more significant. A big thank you is owed to collectors like Jerry Nell and Terry Larson who not only brought their own cars but also convinced owners who couldnt attend to send theirs.
Ever since details on the JCC came out last December it was clear that this was going to be the event of 2001; the various anniversaries to be celebrated ( Sir Lyons, the SS Car, the V12 engine, the first Le Mans Win, ) would insure a massive turnout.
While only 4 cars from our club were ready for the trip ( Bill Smails XJ6, Brad Clines series 1 E-type, Pascal Gademers series 3 E-type and Frank Rubinos champion XK120 trailered to Franklin ) a few other members participated without their cars : Rick Hartwell, Steve Jaffe, Russel Glace, Richard Irving, Jane and Jerry Goodman, and Mike Rosenberg.
Something for everyone...
The official schedule was packed with daily activities (see list to the right). For the first time, at least in recent years, the JCNA Annual General Meeting was held in conjunction with the Challenge.
The Cool Springs Mariott Hotel was the hub of all activities especially in the parking lot where a large section had been closed up and restricted to Jaguar only parking transforming the parking in a week long cruise zone. Zymol, well known for their car care products, provided a wash area with hoses and free cleaning and detailing supplies.
We have separate articles and pictures on each event, accessible from the links to the left.
As expected, this was an event not to miss; the number of cars but most importantly their quality was just amazing and the various activities were a lot of fun with something for everyone. Gathering so many fine cars, and people, is not a small task and once again, JCNA and its organizing committee delivered. This alone is an excellent reason for any Jaguar enthusiast to join their local JCNA affiliated club.
