1959 Mark IX 790877BW, first place in Class 8 for the JCNA South East Region 1999
This lovely car was purchased new from Jaguar Cars, Coventry England by Norman and Selma Sherman. The car is Black with Mist Grey inserts and Light Blue # 4 leather interior. It was delivered with a Borg Warner automatic gearbox and the only option upgrades were white wall tires and a limited slip differential. The car was delivered to the Liverpool docks on May 1, 1959 and Jaguar Cars North America Corp of NYC handled the delivery to the States.
The car has spent part of its life in Miami Florida where it had air conditioning installed to endure the hot weather. The balance of its years have been spent in Boston Ma. and New Hampshire, and was cared for by Bob Nicholson and David Hughes from Brittanic Motors Inc.
I first saw the car at the 1997 biennial at the Strattin Mountain in Vermont and fell in love with it. Norm even let me drive everyone to dinner one night which really got me hooked. I often thought about the car the following year and mentioned to Norm more than once that I would be very interested in the car if the day came he was ready to let go of his prize.
That day came in June 1999 and the car arrived at its new home on June 25th. We made our first show in Tampa August 1st ( 1st place of course ) and our own concours in November. The car is now a regular at the Towers Shops on the last Friday of every month where we mingle with all the british cars from the Gold Coast Triumph Club.
Diane and I feel the Shermans passed on a very special treasure to us and we hope we can maintain it in the future as well as they have in the past.
